Just lay down on the grass and look at the sky. The clouds. See any shapes you recognize? When I was a kid I was doing it often. I would see faces and fairy tales heroes and the armies ready for battle. Strange tropical islands and wales and faces watching me.

Let your mind wander. Take a break and fly to the world of OZ for a little bit.
Enjoy sunrise and sunset.
Watch the grass grow. Check your flowers every morning. See the beauty around you.
I used to lay down and watch an ant busily doing it’s chores. Just following it. And the new world opens up. Bright and full of colors, sounds and meaning.
And than you realize that this world lives by it’s own rules and does not have an interest in your issues or problems or in you.
This wide rich colorful and busy world does not need us humans and most likely will be happily busy living after humanity is long gone.
Please learn to see this world. Let your brain loose. Let your thoughts wander. Imagination and fantasy are your friends. They help you to get rid of your blinders and dogmas and see and hear what you have been too busy to see and hear. Real life.
Learn to meditate. Learn to understand children and see the world through their eyes. Because their world is much wider, brighter more beautiful and more alive than ours.
We don’t have to be serious all the time. We really are not that important. Relax.
Smile. Smile at the sun and clouds. Smile just for no reason and you will feel better.
No worries!

Just float!

Smile at strangers and many of them will smile back at you and for both of you the day will get brighter and kinder.

Some times it seems the whole world is against us and we don’t feel like smiling. Smile and the world will smile back. Maybe not right away but it will. And the world will become brighter and will open up it’s beauty for you.
Imagine laying on the beach. Feel the sun touching your skin gently. You hear seagulls. Children are playing and their voices are like happy music of the Universe. Just float there in this sea of sounds, sunlight and smells.
Your mind is far away, in another dimension, in other time or maybe just in nowhere. It’s OK
That is life. Real life.
Live in these fleeting moments we call life. Because our lives are just a chain of fleeting moments and if you ignore these moments they are gone. Unnoticed.
And here is my little secret.
I am writing it to myself. But I will let you to read it.

Herbs of Kedem

Judean Desert Herbs

The ancient Hebrew medicine was practiced in the Land of Israel at least until the second century B.C., as attested by contemporary historians who described the export of ointments from the Judean Desert region.  Its approach included: the maceration of plants in oil (installations for such a process were recently discovered in Ein-Bokek, near the Dead Sea);

Emphasis on total change of an existing condition, as exemplified by symbol of snake on bar (current symbol of pharmacies), which Moses received: stick converted to snake and back.  Immediately upon receiving this symbol, he
performed an act of healing on himself: converting healthy hand to hand with leprosy, and healing it again.  This total transformation was typically performed with hormones-rich plants.
The Hebrew term Kedem means “antiquity” but also “forward”- and the idea of the name is that ancient remedies will be the basis for the remedies of the future.

Just today don't worry

How many times have you heard this or said it?  Do you really believe it?  To worry is to fear the outcome or result of a situation.  It consists of negative energy.  If we fear something we are sending negative energy to it.  Most things strive on energy and can’t tell whether it is negative or positive energy that is being sent its way.  But do we want this situation, whatever it may be, to strive and grow on the energy we are sending its way?  So, we need to stop sending negative energy out.  Focus on the positive.  The current economic situation we are in has some silver linings.  Less houses,  strip malls, and buildings are being built, this is, to my way of thinking, taking a step in saving our planet, someday we may need those 1.2 million acres of farm ground per year that we are turning into parking lots.  Fewer things are being bought, so there is less pollution being produced.

And we are importing less goods from countries that don’t have our best interest in mind when they send food products and toys laced with toxins.  And so on.  We are expending a lot of our individual energy by worrying

about this or any situation.  There may be bad things happening to some of folks, but worrying about it doesn’t help, you have to be positive, look on the bright side, see what there is good about it.

Most of the readers of this newsletter are Reiki students; visualize a positive outcome to what is going on and send Reiki to your perceived outcome.  Some of you have taken the Reiki Mystery School/Transformational Reiki Class, it is time to dust off the Kotama symbol and write out your goals, put your list under the candle for 21 days.

Meditation has incredible mental and physical benefits. While meditation can be a form of spiritual or enlightenment practice, many of us meditate for a more secular purpose. Whether it be to deal with daily stress, to manage pain, or to combat depression, meditation is greatly beneficial.

Meditation has been shown to slow the individual’s heart rate through what has been termed a “relaxation response” by Dr. Herbert Benson. Benson’s research into the physical effects of meditation found that body functions improve when stress is reduced and that, in turn, meditation has a dramatic effect on stress levels. As the modern world continuously presents stressful situations, more and more people are overcome, physically and psychologically, by these challenges. Taking the time to “de-stress” each day – via meditation – is one way to overcome this issue. The result of this de-stressing, or relaxation, is to improve all of the major bodily functions and can arguably lead to enhance immune, cardiovascular, digestive and reproductive health.
As meditation involves deep breathing we get ample amount of oxygen which we don’t get while normal breathing. We all know that our life is running because of oxygen so more we receive it better it is for our overall physical health. Another technique of meditation known as active meditation facilitates proper blood circulation through activities like dancing, stretching parts of body, laughing and jumping with joy. So no matter which technique you use you are sure to receive numerous health benefits through meditation.

Hoping to improve your tennis serve? It’s probably better to catch a few winks than load up on java after a lesson, results of a NIMH-supported study suggest. Caffeine impaired such motor learning and verbal memory, while an afternoon nap benefited all three types of learning tested by Sara Mednick, Ph.D., and colleagues at the University of California, San Diego. The researchers report on their findings in the November issue of Behavioural Brain Research.

Background
Ninety percent of Americans use caffeine daily, some substituting it for sleep. While the stimulant enhances alertness and concentration, it’s been unclear whether it also helps learning and memory. By contrast, daytime naps, like nighttime sleep, benefit both alertness and memory, Mednick and colleagues have shown in a series of studies.
Here is some more info:
Researchers taught volunteers new words in the evening and then immediately tested their recall of the words. The volunteers slept in the laboratory while their brain activity was recorded. Tests conducted the next morning showed that the participants could remember and recognize more words than they did immediately after learning them.
This improvement was not seen in another group of participants who learned new words and were tested in the morning and re-tested in the evening, with no sleep in between tests.
The brain activity data collected from the volunteers in the sleep group showed that deep sleep (slow-wave sleep) helped strengthen their memories of new words.

The researchers also found that a type of brain activity called sleep spindles played a role in the ability to remember new words. Sleep spindles are brief but intense bursts of activity that indicate information transfer between two different memory storage areas, the hippocampus and the neocortex.

The more sleep spindles a person experienced during sleep, the more successful they were in using new words in their vocabulary.
“We suspected from previous work that sleep had a role to play in the reorganization of new memories, but this is the first time we’ve really been able to observe it in action, and understand the importance of spindle activity in the process,” study co-author Gareth Gaskell, a professor in the psychology department at the University of York in England, said in a university news release.
The study was published Nov. 2 in the Journal of Neuroscience.

Positive thinking

Positive thinking and feeling good about yourself.

We don’t have to feed ourselves negative thoughts about our body size, but we do have to be realistic about what goes on when we are overweight. There’s nothing wrong with being positive about our bodies and striving to be the best we can be. But just because someone has a positive mental perception of their body doesn’t always mean it’s physically good for them to be that way.
I don’t accept the idea that you should practice “feel good” self acceptance no matter what. It works both ways.
Work hard to look good! Eat right. Exercise!. And yes-practice positive attitude!
All of the above will help you to be healthy, fit and positive.
Don’t fool yourself that you are great and beautiful just the way you are. ALWAYS strive to improve yourself inside and outside. Nothing will happen without the effort!
Any achievement requires work. Just do it.
Don’t look for excuses like “I am beautiful just the way I am”
Get to work! And be positive!
Your self image has just as great an impact on your physical health as your nutrition and exercise program!
In recent times, it has been proven that our thoughts and emotions directly affect the state of our physical health. This is called the “mind-body” connection. This connection is made possible because of special chemical messengers, called neuropeptides, which help our body’s organs communicate directly with the brain.
Whenever you have a thought or emotion, your brain releases neurotransmitters and hormones, which trigger physical responses in your body. If you are caught in a stressful situation and you react to it with a negative thought (or words!), your heart starts racing and your body releases two powerful stress hormones, cortisol and adrenalin. When these hormones are secreted in response to continual stress, they have very negative impacts on your body. They accelerate brain aging, increase fat storage, suppress your immune system, and cause muscle and bone loss.
Sometimes we tend to focus on the negative aspects of our bodies and our life’s circumstances. Next time you look in the mirror, notice what thoughts arise. If a stressful circumstance arises, do you immediately think about the worst-case scenario or the positive side of the situation?

Health benefits of Meditation:
Though meditation is usually recognized as a largely spiritual practice, it also has many health benefits. The yoga and meditation techniques are being implemented in management of life threatening diseases; in transformation of molecular and genetic structure; in reversal of mental illnesses, in accelerated learning programs, in perceptions and communications beyond the physical, in solving problems and atomic and nuclear physics; in gaining better ecological understanding; in management of lifestyle and future world problems.

Improvement of body luster and general health-When your mind focuses on a particular part of the body, the blood flow to that part increases and cells receive more oxygen and other nutrients in abundance. Today, many of the film stars and fashion models include meditation in their daily regimen.

Improvement in concentration – Many of the athletes and sports professionals regularly employ meditation methods. Studies have found a direct correlation between concentration exercises (meditation) and the performance level of sports professionals. Meditation strengthens the mind, it comes under control and is able to provide effective guidance to the physical body to effectively execute all its projects. Psychological Exercises are a powerful way of improving concentration and improving mental strength.

Slow Down Aging with Meditation?

People who meditate grow bigger brains than those who don’t.

Researchers at Harvard, Yale, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have found the first evidence that meditation can alter the physical structure of our brains. Brain scans they conducted reveal that experienced meditators boasted increased thickness in parts of the brain that deal with attention and processing sensory input.

In one area of gray matter, the thickening turns out to be more pronounced in older than in younger people. That’s intriguing because those sections of the human cortex, or thinking cap, normally get thinner as we age.

The researchers compared brain scans of 20 experienced meditators with those of 15 nonmeditators. Four of the former taught meditation or yoga, but they were not monks living in seclusion. The rest worked in careers such as law, health care, and journalism. All the participants were white. During scanning, the meditators meditated; the others just relaxed and thought about whatever they wanted.

“The goal is to pay attention to sensory experience, rather than to your thoughts about the sensory experience,” Lazar explains. “For example, if you suddenly hear a noise, you just listen to it rather than thinking about it. If your leg falls asleep, you just notice the physical sensations. If nothing is there, you pay attention to your breathing.” Successful meditators get used to not thinking or elaborating things in their mind.

So from time to time get out of the squirrel cage, slow down, meditate.

Salmon is loaded with EPA and DHA, as are walnuts, flaxseeds, and even cauliflower.

According to research published in Nutrition Journal, fish oil can help increase your ability to concentrate.
